ESG Component Testing House makes automated test series for infotainment systems possible

Car manufacturers benefit from increased productivity and shorter product introduction times.

Distinct increases in productivity in the automobile industry, improved test coverage thanks to a larger number of test cases with appropriate test depth and shorter product introduction times - these are the advantages offered by "ESG Component House". ESG Elektroniksystem- und Logistik-GmbH has developed this solution to simplify integration, all necessary tests and safeguarding infotainment systems or other E/E components. The ESG Component Testing House was presented to the public for the first time at the GM Tech Show in Rüsselsheim.

Today, infotainment systems are much more than just sophisticated car radios and navigation systems. A large number of mutually interacting multimedia components and their connection to other function groups in the vehicle make them more and more complex. Country-specific requirements, different vehicle variants and varying software cycles further increase their complexity. For example, the head unit now controls and manages the commands for the multifunctional steering wheel, the air conditioning control unit, the telephone and the complete rear-seat entertainment system. "Today, no infotainment component is just a closed system but interacts with other components in the vehicle. This increases the complexity of the tests enormously," says Wolfgang Sczygiol, Head of ESG Business Area Automotive.

The ESG Component Testing House meets the demands of these changes. It is especially ideal for complex test series. Car manufacturers can rely on an efficient testing concept which not only covers the organisation, definition and planning of the tests but also includes test performance and complete reporting and fault management. Finally, ESG evaluates the test results using statistical indexes thus providing the customer with a strong decision-making basis. Integrating components into the entire vehicle is also a service provided by the company.

Today, car manufacturers can engage ESG Component Testing House for the integration of the test object into the MOST ring and safeguarding the internal interfaces of the head unit. In addition to that, tests can be conducted for incorporating language and command button controls, for evaluating the man-machine interface and audio signals, and for testing LAN(CAN) telegrammes.
