ESG develops diagnostics editing system for Volkswagen
"ODIS Creator" will be used around the world by the Volkswagen Group

The Volkswagen Group is currently redeveloping its entire diagnostics software. Known as ODIS (Offboard Diagnostics Information System), a new generation of system solutions is being produced which will be used in Volkswagen Group service divisions around the world. ESG Elektroniksystem- und Logistik-GmbH has developed the diagnostics editing system – one of the two central pillars of ODIS – for it.
ODIS will allow service technicians to access all of the important systems and information for vehicle diagnostics in accordance with Volkswagen's specifications. "The system increases repair reliability and customer satisfaction while reducing workshop and guarantee costs."
ESG has developed "ODIS Creator", the ODIS editing system, over the past two years. With the aid of this system, the Volkswagen Group will record all data service points require on site. It thereby establishes the basis for a uniform diagnostics process across the entire Volkswagen Group. The system provides all of the functions required to create diagnostics information and embeds this in a suitable work environment. ODIS Creator assists with the creation of fault locating programs and diagnostics information for use with diagnostic testers, and provides features for publishing information, authorisation and management, as well as for translation support, administration and data exchange.
ODIS Creator is an individual development which integrates interfaces to internal Volkswagen Group systems and products launched on the market. The result is that Volkswagen has not only a product, but also the source code of all program components created for ODIS Creator at its disposal and is also able to minimise outlay and realisation time. These advantages apply not only to the initial development, but also to operation, maintenance and further development. New functions, due to new technologies in the vehicle, for example, can thus be implemented quickly and at a reasonable cost.
