The topics of joint fire support and the international exchange of data for missions abroad are the main themes of ESG Elektroniksystem- und Logistik-GmbH\'s presentation at this year\'s AFCEA trade exhibition. At its stand, the company is presenting solutions designed to improve collaboration between different branches of military services and countries. The AFCEA trade exhibition is regarded as Germany\'s most important trade fair for military IT. This year it\'s taking place from 7 - 8 May in the Stadthalle Bonn-Bad Godesberg.
For out-of-area missions, the Bundeswehr usually works together with international partners from the United Nations, NATO or the European Union. To be able to act effectively, all the capacities of the forces involved should be coordinated to work together. The capacity of the force as a whole, not the capacity of the individual organisational areas, is paramount. This is referred to as "joint fire support", meaning the armed forces\' joint ability to provide reciprocal support from land, air and naval forces in all dimensions of the deployment area.
The ESG ADLER II and DVA II systems make joint fire support possible. The artillery\'s computer network and the infantry\'s light mortar combat system allow quick, secure transfer of information between troop units and decision levels. Collaboration with other countries is also possible.
Another ESG topic this year is the international exchange of data during missions. Around seven years ago, 25 nations set up MIP, the multilateral interoperability program, for this purpose. ESG is significantly involved in the project as the industrial partner of the German armed forces and has implemented the results in a German prototype experimental system. The HEROS-Camulus command and control and information system, an ESG development, has proven that it meets the complex requirements of international interoperability on a number of occasions. Visitors can judge its effectiveness at the AFCEA.
In addition, the topic of SAP-GIS integration will be presented at the ESG stand. Here, ESG establishes the link between operational logistics processes in the SAP system and geographical information in geoinformation systems. A an example, how maintenance processes can be organised more effectively will be demonstrated. In this way, site information from movable deployment systems can be used to find the closest maintenance troop.
