ESG to implement modern high-tech positioning system for Kögel
Internet-based ESG portal integrates barcode and GPS data, enabling optimum trailer location at the Burtenbach site.

ESG Elektroniksystem- und Logistik-GmbH plans to implement a high-tech vehicle location system for Kögel Fahrzeugwerke GmbH at its Burtenbach site in the district of Günzburg. With the help of hardware-independent system solutions, it will be possible in future to determine the exact position of trailers on the factory premises and to optimise their transport. Kögel is one of the world´s leading manufacturers for the development and serial production of semi-trailers for goods transport.
Each lorry trailer has a 17-digit serial identification number imprinted in the form of a barcode on its chassis. ESG´s high-tech positioning system enables the trailers´ barcodes to be scanned using modern hand-held devices, and their GPS coordinates to be determined at the same time. The available geo-information is then transferred to the Internet-based portal SuCES-Telematics by GPRS data transmission. This software telematics system is an all-in-one solution for the controlling, monitoring and managing of logistical processes. It can be extended on a modular basis and used for a variety of applications. In the case of Kögel, SuCES-Telematics can serve multiple purposes. The software portal not only visualises current trailer positions, helping to reduce the search and dispatching effort required on the part of the staff, but is also actively used for processing orders.
In addition, the customer´s main dispatching system transfers all relevant trailer information to the ESG portal. The positions and chassis numbers of the trailers to be delivered are then transferred by SuCES-Telematics to the employees concerned. On the basis of this technology, staff can find the required trailers straight away and can immediately take them to the delivery area.
Reduced search times, optimised utilisation of resources and an enhanced image are the prime advantages of introducing this high-tech location system. Thanks to the all-in-one SuCES-Telematics software solution, the concept can easily be adapted and extended to other sites at any time on the basis of geo-coded maps of the individual plants and their external storage bays.
