Psychologically strengthen your soldiers and forces

The ESG training platform CHARLY can be used to prevent post-traumatic stress disorders (PTSDs) by training forces in advance for stress situations which may arise during the course of a mission.

With CHARLY's mission-specific training methods, ESG are taking a unique approach to psychosocial first aid (PSFA) and the prevention of PTSD. In order to afford soldiers better future protection against extreme stress, ESG Elektroniksystem- und Logistik-GmbH has successfully developed and tested a training platform for psychosocial support. ESG has produced a prototype on behalf of the Psychological Office of the Bundeswehr and in close co-operation with the Bundeswehr's Centre for Weapons Disposal.

In addition to the risks to life and health, missions also put a high psychological strain on the soldiers involved. Cases of acute psychological problems, including the development of post-traumatic stress disorder (PTSD) with severe psychological and physical consequences, are becoming increasingly common.

The CHARLY (CHAos situation management RetrievaL sYstem) training platform supports the primary prevention of possible psycho-traumas, helping to prevent or reduce the severity of post-traumatic stress disorders. The content of the training is defined specifically for the relevant target group. With the aid of the training platform, the trainees learn to recognise the causes and symptoms of acute stress disorders for themselves. The platform also outlines mechanisms for managing stress disorders and trains the soldiers in using these. CHARLY uses the "blended learning" approach. This is an integrated training concept which uses a combination of modern Internet- or intranet-based networking possibilities and "classical" training methods and media to provide the optimum appropriate training structure. This achieves maximum and long-lasting training success.

CHARLY is also useful for police forces, fire services and the technical relief agency – especially considering the increasing numbers of these forces deployed on missions abroad.
