Mobile Network Planning, Optimisation, and Engineering

The size and complexity of today´s mobile networks is continuously growing, and with it the cost of planning and operating these networks. Network planning and engineering has to reach a delicate balance between cost, network performance, and up-time of business critical services. To achieve this goal software solutions are being increasingly deployed to

  • accelerate the deployment of innovative new services, estimating both the impact of these services on the existing network and feasibility / cost ratio associated with such integration
  • optimize network performance and quality of service through traffic engineering and appropriate capacity sizing
  • reduce network costs through a better utilization of existing resources, off-loading existing costly resources (leased lines, etc.) which then can be retired, and delaying capital expenditures, due to a significantly accelerated network planning cycle
  • support network continuity planning by rapidly estimating the impact of failures of network elements/trunk groups, throughout all layers of the mobile network
  • support of strategic network planning, to estimate the benefits of substantial structural changes on network performance/cost ratio.

To successfully master these tasks, an accurate and up-to-date model of the network is an essential pre-requisite.

ESG-NetCOP® GSM/UMTS Network Planning Tool-Suite is unique in providing an accurate and in-depth overview of the complete network. Its exceptional depth and breadth of modelling encompasses all three main layers:

All modules are fully compatible, working on a uniform network model programmed within the tool’s database. They further offer a consistent user-orientated interface.

With extensive pre-programmed knowledge of the regulations and standards to which telecommunication networks have to conform, it ensures that data from various sources (OMCs / NMCs, Inventory Management Systems, Spreadsheets and measurement tools) is combined to form an accurate model of the existing network.

Cutting-edge network dimensioning algorithms ensure that resources deployed in the network are matched to the traffic load, allowing over-provisioned network resources to be easily identified and facilitating reduction in network operational expenses without compromising the grade of service provided by the network.
