ESG’s GUARDION solution protects G20 Summit against the threat of unauthorised drones
ESG’s modular Counter-UAS System has once more been an integral part of the security infrastructure of a large scale political event with Heads of States and Goverments.
The Federal Criminal Police Office (Bundeskriminalamt/BKA) has commissioned ESG Elektroniksystem- und Logistik-GmbH to ensure the reliable and effective protection of the G20 Summit in Hamburg from 7th till 8th of July 2017 against the unauthorized use of drones with components of their modular Counter-UAS System „GUARDION“.
In general, GUARDION combines customer specific, scalable solutions to the problem of detecting and defending against commercially available drones thus protecting the customer from the dangers emanating from their unauthorized use. GUARDION is a cooperation of ESG, Rohde & Schwarz ans Diehl Defence, benefiting from their proven expertise in the fields of radar, radio detection and electro-magnetic countermeasures as well as sophisticated Command & Control Systems.
In addition to the products and solutions of the GUARDION cooperation partners which were approved in multiple missions, further high-performance sensors of renowned technology companies have been employed due to the specific security requirements in Hamburg – they have been successfully integrated, fused and coordinated with ESG’s state-of-the-art Command & Control system TARANIS®.
“We are proud to have fully justified the trust placed in us and our solution by the security authorities yet again after the G7 Summit 2015 in Elmau 2015 and the visit of the US President 2016 in Hanover 2016. Again, we have demonstrated successfully that the modular and scalable solution realized in GUARDION can be integrated effectively in most demanding security infrastructures and thus fulfills even the highest security requirements in the protection against drones”, said Christoph Weber, Head of Defence & Public Security Division of ESG.
“Once again, it has been shown that a multi-layer approach of multiple connected sensors and counter-measures is crucially needed for the secure and comprehensive protection against drones – for this, TARANIS® has proven its high degree of functionality and usability extensively during the operational mission at the G20 Summit."
